"My family didn't know about SCD, and that changed everything."
Kofi was born in Ghana but grew up in Nigeria. His family had no history of sickle cell disease and knew little about genotype testing.
"When I was diagnosed at age 5, my family was devastated and confused. We had no idea what SCD was or how to manage it."
This experience inspired Kofi to become an educator. He now works with schools and community organizations across West Africa, raising awareness about sickle cell disease and genotype testing.
"Knowledge is power. If my family had known, we would have been better prepared. I want to make sure no family has to go through what we went through. Every person should know their genotype."
