Enugu, Nigeria

"I turned my pain into purpose."

Chidi was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at birth. Growing up in a small town in Enugu State, he faced not only the physical challenges of SCD but also the stigma and misconceptions that surrounded the condition.

"I was often told I wouldn't live past 20," Chidi recalls. "But I refused to accept that limitation."

At 22, Chidi graduated with honors in Public Health and has since dedicated his career to sickle cell advocacy. He has started a foundation that provides free genotype testing for youth in rural communities.

"My journey has taught me that our greatest challenges can become our greatest contributions. Every crisis I survived gave me strength. Every hospital stay taught me resilience. SCD didn't break meβ€”it made me."
